About this tour

Luxury Sumatra Orangutan, Lake Toba and Bukittinggi Tour from Bali

Discover the wild landscapes and diverse cultures of Indonesia on this private 12-day Luxury Sumatra Tour from Bali. Designed for travelers who want comfort, nature, and authentic local experiences, this journey combines Bukit Lawang orangutan trekking, the volcanic highlands of Berastagi, Lake Toba, Bukittinggi, Harau Valley, and Minangkabau villages.

Your package starts with hotel pick-up in Bali and a domestic flight to Medan. Throughout the journey, travel with private transportation, experienced local guides, selected accommodation, and carefully arranged connections. At the end of the tour, choose to fly to Jakarta or return to Bali.

Search for Sumatran Orangutans in Bukit Lawang

Travel from Medan to Bukit Lawang, a riverside village beside Gunung Leuser National Park. Join a licensed jungle guide and walk beneath one of Sumatra’s oldest rainforest canopies.

During your Bukit Lawang orangutan trekking tour, search for Sumatran orangutans, Thomas leaf monkeys, macaques, siamang, tropical birds, and other wildlife. Your guide will also explain the rainforest ecosystem, local plants, and orangutan conservation.

Because the animals live freely in their natural habitat, sightings cannot be guaranteed. However, every trek offers a genuine wildlife adventure shaped by the forest, weather, and natural conditions.

Sumatra Tour from Bali: Explore Berastagi and Lake Toba

After Bukit Lawang, continue into the cool Karo Highlands. Visit Berastagi, see traditional Karo villages, and admire the volcanic scenery surrounding Mount Sibayak and Mount Sinabung. Then, stop at Sipiso-Piso Waterfall before continuing toward Lake Toba.

Cross the lake to Samosir Island and stay beside the calm water. During your private Lake Toba tour, explore traditional Batak villages, ancient stone chairs, royal tombs, local markets, and distinctive wooden houses. Moreover, your guide will introduce Batak history, music, architecture, and family traditions.

You will also have time to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the world’s largest volcanic lake.

Discover Bukittinggi and Minangkabau Culture

Next, fly from North Sumatra to Padang and continue privately to Bukittinggi. Explore Jam Gadang, Ngarai Sianok, traditional villages, and the magnificent Istano Basa Pagaruyung.

This part of your private Sumatra cultural tour introduces the Minangkabau people and their unique matrilineal society. Admire the curved roofs of traditional Rumah Gadang houses, meet local communities, and taste regional cuisine.

In addition, visit Harau Valley, where dramatic cliffs rise above rice fields, waterfalls, and peaceful villages. Continue toward Lake Maninjau and enjoy the changing landscapes of West Sumatra before reaching Padang.

A Private Sumatra Journey with Flexible Ending of Sumatra Tour from Bali

This tour combines wildlife, culture, and scenery without rushing through each destination. Private vehicles provide greater comfort and flexibility, while knowledgeable guides help you understand the places and communities you visit.

Finish your Sumatra tour package from Bali with a flight from Padang to Jakarta, an ideal option for international departures. Alternatively, return to Bali and receive a private transfer to your hotel.

From the movement of an orangutan high in the rainforest to the morning mist above Lake Toba, this journey reveals a side of Indonesia that feels remote, personal, and unforgettable.
